Abstract

This paper deals with power system planning in developing countries. Several features of power system planning in developing countries are presented. These show that the planning process varies with the degree of assimilation of technology by society in general, and by planners and decision makers in particular, as well as the degree of economic growth, sound economic management, adoption of appropriate policies and degree of social development. The problems encountered by power system planners in developing countries are discussed in the first part of the paper. The second part is allotted to a detailed description of the Jordanian case as a good model of fairly successful planning endeavor. In the third and final part, some conclusions are drawn.
