Abstract

It becomes essential for the Jordanian companies to be credited with ISO, particularly after the great effort that has been exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah The Second and the Jordanian government to join many international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization. Also, the Jordanian companies must improve its product in order to inter the international competition and then contribute in developing the national economy. The importance of this research is to highlight through the study and evaluation of implementing the ISO system in construction companies' management. In addition to analyzing the impact of implementing the twenty demands for ISO, each one at a time, on increasing the profit, the company's development and the safety in the work environment of these companies. Five construction companies that have been achieved the ISO certificate were chosen for the purpose of realizing this research's objectives. Moreover, many prolonged interviews were conducted with the Quality Managers of these companies. The researcher concluded that the adoption of this system (ISO) largely contributes to increasing the companies profitability, develops and insures higher safety measures in these companies. Furthermore, there are many other tangible and less obvious benefits. The twenty ISO implementation demands are not of the same importance, some are very significant and others are not. Thus, it was a wise decision to adopt the revise ISO system. However, the existing ISO system has ignored some other important issues which are mainly related to construction. Of these issues are construction claims and dispute, preparing the vender and order changing. Therefore, this paper suggests a new system which may be called as ISO-Construction to deal with the significant requirement that would be of interest to construction companies.
