Abstract

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the effect of the characteristics of the supporting pile system which fixes the semi-immersed caisson breakwater on the breakwater efficiency and seabed changes. The efficiency of the breakwater was presented as a function of wave transmission for different wave , caisson, supporting pile system and seabed parameters. Also, the sandy bed hydrography was recorded around the breakwater and the maximum erosion and accretion were determined. It is concluded that the supporting pile system increases the efficiency of the caisson breakwater by 5 10 20 % according to the number of piles per unit length of the breakwater. Also, the maximum erosion depth and the maximum) accretion height near the structure were found 15% and 13% relative to the water depth. Finally, the embedded length of the supporting piles must be increased by 12% to cover the local scour around the piles.
