Abstract

Cultural tourism is one of the most important factors attracting tourists around the world to enjoy heritage and experience a unique journey through history and witnessing great civilizations, and the diversity of tourists causes the diversity of needs, services and rehabilitation that makes the tourist enjoy the entire trip, as research shows that making buildings more accessible can lead to an increase in the number of visitors. However, some historical areas in Egypt still suffer from lack of rehabilitation and full accessibility for persons with disabilities. Therefore, this research paper aims to study the access problems and challenges that stand in the way of improving this type of tourism in some historical sites, combining the inductive approach and discussing the results of the field study in the Castle of the Mountain and Baron Empain Palace and studying the experience of the Taj Mahal building, which was rehabilitated for people with disabilities and made it more Availability and ease of use by evaluating the current situation to measure the extent of rehabilitation for people with disabilities and the problems facing people with disabilities in these sites, which could be limited to four main elements, namely, the movement path, vertical and horizontal transportation elements, access to information and site services, from which we conclude the extent to which the accessibility of people with disabilities has been achieved in historical areas. And also to be able to submit proposals to improve the current status of accessibility for persons with disabilities in historical areas.
