Abstract
The research aims to study the problem of municipal solid waste in Egypt, which notes the growth of the phenomenon of dumping this waste in the streets of Egypt, especially following the January 25 revolution and the resulting shortcomings in the performance of successive governments in confronting this problem, which led to an increasing rate of solid waste accumulation in the streets of Cairo and the shortcomings of the administrations’ performance. There is also a lack of a specific methodology for collecting local waste at the republic level. The research aims to develop a methodology for managing these wastes, starting from the collection and transportation process, through treatment and recycling, as well as the sanitary burial of these wastes in the end, which results in preserving the environment and protecting humans from diseases and epidemics, in addition to maximizing the economic return resulting from the reuse and recycling of these wastes. The research deals with a proposed framework or work methodology for managing municipal solid waste in Egypt with the aim of preserving the environment and maximizing economic returns. The research study relied on a scientific approach based on inductive reasoning through monitoring and collecting a set of government data and statistics, as well as monitoring of previous experiences in the collection and recycling process. A set of rules are derived from it with the aim of developing a proposed scientific methodology for collecting and recycling waste and presenting the methodology to the government for adoption and benefiting from it in maximizing the economic return of solid waste recycling, in addition to protecting the environment.
