Abstract

The “Decent Life” Initiative aims to enhance living conditions and support sustainable urban development in Abu Jalal village, Sherbin city, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. The research aims to assess the effectiveness of the 'Decent Life' initiative in promoting sustainable urban development in Egyptian villages, focusing on improving its mechanisms for future use and maximizing benefits in other villages facing similar challenges.. The research employs various methods, including surveys and questionnaires targeting local residents, evaluation based on SDG 11, and GIS software for spatial analysis. Research identifies key areas of improvement across housing, healthcare, transport, education, infrastructure, job opportunities, disaster resilience, waste management, and access to green spaces. Survey results show a 65% improvement in housing conditions, with a 35% gap requiring improvement Land use and green space development Healthcare saw a 60% improvement, but a 40% gap persists in achieving full public transport satisfaction was at 50%, indicating a need for renewable energy integration and green infrastructure Education improved by 70%. Although a 30% gap remains in educational opportunities. Urban infrastructure saw only a 45% improvement, suggesting further integration of sustainable solutions. The analysis highlights significant gaps in disaster preparedness (60%) and job opportunities (50%), pointing to a need for community-led projects and enhanced resilience efforts. Waste and water management also show a 50% gap, emphasizing the need for recycling and reduction initiatives. A 40% gap in access to green spaces calls for the creation of more inclusive public areas.
