Abstract

Nowadays, online shopping is very important in Daily life. in 2020 During the quarantine during the spread of COVID-19, online orders increased dramatically, as a result of the great progress in fifth-generation technologies and using the Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), industry 4.0 and 5.0, fog computing, cloud computing, robots systems, and drones systems. Smart warehouses picking system becomes a Basic need and can be implemented to improve efficiency in logistics. Smart warehouses are growing more dependent on robot systems to make the process of meeting these requests more flexible and effective. Therefore, the allocation of tasks has an important influence on the efficiency of the whole system because smart warehouses have a specific number of robots and a continuous stream of orders, this increases the complexity of the system and has a direct impact on the overall response of the warehouse system. So many researchers work to find different methods to solve this problem, this paper solves the task allocation problem using a new technique based on the Center of Items (COI). By calculating the center of needed items and selecting the best robot to cache a set of these items according to robot specifications and the order priority. The Center of Items (COI) technique aims to maximize the efficient task allocation process by minimizing the order waiting time and minimizing the total distance that robots move to complete all tasks. The results of the new technique also decrease the number of robots that are needed to complete all orders. This led to improving the capability of task processing, optimization of productivity, and minimizing operational costs.
